Šlapanice Museum
The Museum has its seat in a historical building of the former ´Scholasticate´ at Šlapanice. Its collections include, among other objects, an inheritance collection of an important Czech landscape painter Alois Kalvoda, who was born in the town of Šlapanice. Part of the ethnographic collections of the Museum is a remarkable collection of embroidered stamps. Šlapanice and its surroundings are also associated with the famous "Battle of the Three Emperors". Before the battle, the building of the former ´Scholasticate´, now the Museum, was the headquarters of Marshal Soult, the Commander of the 4th.Corps of the ‘Grand Army’. Newly exhibited in the Museum hall are two restored horse-drawn carriages from the end of the 19th. and the beginning of the 20th centuries. At present the Museum organizes temporary thematic exhibitions and in the long term focuses on child visitors in its activities. All exhibitions are accompanied by programmes for schools, children’s workshops or play rooms, the Museum prepares competitions for children and collaborates with elementary and nursery schools in the surrounding area.
